Terms and Conditions

Last updated: September 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to the use of this website and to psychological therapy services provided by Sofia Bergmann, BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.

Please read these terms before booking or commencing therapy. If we agree to work together, you will also be provided with a Therapy Agreement containing further information about how therapy will be provided.

1. About the Service

I provide private psychological therapy to adults using evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

An initial consultation provides an opportunity to briefly discuss what you are seeking support with and whether the service I provide may be appropriate for you.

An initial consultation does not constitute a full psychological assessment, diagnosis or treatment and does not guarantee that therapy will subsequently be offered.

I reserve the right to decline to offer therapy where I believe that the difficulties presented fall outside my professional competence, that another service or treatment would be more appropriate, or that private outpatient therapy would not adequately meet your needs.

Where appropriate, I may recommend that you seek support from another professional or service.

2. Initial Consultation

I currently offer a complimentary 15-minute initial consultation to prospective clients.

There is no obligation to proceed with therapy following this consultation.

The purpose of the consultation is to briefly understand what you are looking for, answer initial questions about therapy and consider whether we may be suitable to work together.

Submitting an enquiry or attending an initial consultation does not establish an ongoing therapist–client relationship.

3. Appointments

Standard therapy appointments are approximately 50 minutes unless otherwise agreed.

The frequency and expected duration of therapy will be discussed with you and may be reviewed throughout treatment.

Appointments are offered subject to availability.

If you arrive late for an appointment, the session will normally still finish at the originally scheduled time.

4. Fees and Payment

The current fee for a standard 50-minute therapy session is £99.

Fees will be clearly communicated before therapy begins.

Payment is due 48 hours before each and can be made by bank transfer or credit card.

Fees may be reviewed periodically. Existing clients will be given reasonable notice of any change to the fee applicable to their sessions.

5. Cancellations and Missed Appointments

If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice.

Appointments cancelled with less than the required notice may be charged at the full session fee.

Missed appointments without notice may also be charged at the full session fee.

I recognise that genuine emergencies and exceptional circumstances can occur, and these may be considered at my discretion.

If I need to cancel an appointment, you will not be charged and I will aim to offer an alternative appointment where possible.

6. Confidentiality

Information discussed during psychological therapy is treated as confidential.

There are, however, circumstances in which confidentiality may need to be broken, including where there are serious concerns regarding your safety or the safety of another person, safeguarding concerns, or where disclosure is required by law.

Where reasonably possible and safe to do so, I would aim to discuss this with you before sharing information.

Further information about confidentiality, clinical records and the use of personal information is available in my Privacy Notice and will also be discussed as part of the Therapy Agreement.

7. Communication Between Sessions

Email, telephone and WhatsApp may be used for initial enquiries and brief administrative communication, including arranging or changing appointments.

These communication channels are not intended to provide therapy between scheduled sessions and should not be used to request urgent psychological support.

I may not be able to respond immediately to messages and do not continuously monitor email, telephone or WhatsApp.

Clinical matters should ordinarily be discussed during scheduled therapy appointments.

8. Emergencies and Crisis Support

My private practice does not provide an emergency, crisis or out-of-hours service.

If you require urgent mental health support, you should use the appropriate NHS or emergency services available to you.

If there is an immediate risk to your safety or another person’s safety, call 999 or attend your nearest Accident & Emergency department.

For urgent mental health support in England, you can also contact NHS 111 and select the mental health option.

9. Online Therapy

Where therapy is provided online, you are responsible for joining the appointment from a private and reasonably confidential location and for having an appropriate internet connection and device.

You should not participate in therapy while driving or in circumstances where doing so would be unsafe.

Technical problems occasionally occur. If a session is significantly disrupted by technical difficulties, we will agree how best to proceed.

10. Suitability and Ending Therapy

Therapy is voluntary and you may choose to end therapy at any time.

Where possible, I encourage clients to discuss the decision to end therapy during a session so that treatment can be reviewed and concluded appropriately.

I may recommend ending or pausing therapy where I believe:

* the service is no longer clinically appropriate;
* your needs would be better met by another service or professional;
* a higher level of care or specialist intervention is required;
* continuing therapy would fall outside my professional competence;
* there are persistent difficulties maintaining the agreed therapeutic boundaries; or
* another significant professional or ethical reason means that continuing therapy would not be appropriate.

Where reasonably possible, this will be discussed with you and appropriate alternative sources of support may be suggested.

11. Professional Boundaries

The therapeutic relationship is a professional relationship.

Contact outside scheduled appointments should normally be limited to necessary administrative communication unless something different has been explicitly agreed as part of your treatment.

Social media connection requests from current or former clients will not normally be accepted in order to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.

12. Clinical Records

Appropriate clinical records will be maintained in accordance with professional and legal requirements.

Information about how your personal information is collected, stored, used and retained can be found in the Privacy Notice available on this website.

13. Website Information

The information provided on this website is intended to provide general information about my practice and psychological therapy.

Website content is not a substitute for individual psychological or medical advice, assessment, diagnosis or treatment.

Viewing this website, submitting an enquiry or communicating with me through the website does not establish a therapist–client relationship.

Unless otherwise stated, the written content and original materials on this website are owned by or licensed to Sofia Bergmann.

Website content may not be reproduced, distributed or used commercially without prior permission, except where permitted by law.

Therapeutic worksheets or resources provided during treatment are intended for your personal therapeutic use unless otherwise stated.

15. Complaints

I aim to provide psychological therapy to a high professional standard.

If you have concerns about any aspect of the service you receive, I encourage you to raise these with me so that I have an opportunity to understand and address them.

Further information about raising concerns and making a formal complaint is available on the Complaints page of this website.

As a BABCP-accredited practitioner, I practise in accordance with applicable BABCP professional standards and requirements.

16. Changes to These Terms

These Terms & Conditions may be updated periodically to reflect changes to my practice, fees, services or relevant professional and legal requirements.

The current version will be available on this website.
